My name is Iona, and I am a professional singer in Band of Skulls. I’ve got my own artist project and I work with a publisher, singing in the studio as well.
I met Matt about two to three years ago and I was really worried about my vocal fatigue, my vocal health. I was desperate to find a sustainable way to sing and perform on a regular basis, and I needed to find confidence in my voice again. From the very beginning, Matt made me feel seen. He made me feel comfortable and safe and understood. He very, very quickly identified tensions I was holding onto when it came to my vocals, and he supported me in finding better ways to express my unique sound.
He never tries to take away from your unique sound. He always makes sure to customise his coaching to what you need. We worked on a lot of things, like my tongue tension, vocal projection, finding resonance and power throughout my range, and effort levels. We’ve created warm up exercises and routines for me to stay on top of things, and he’s introduced a lot of practical tools I can take with me to work on songs by myself. He’s been my rock through touring, and he’s been great at giving me advice on the mental aspects of everything, but also career choices and goals.
As a result of working with him, my voice is way more free, I feel more in control, and I know how to attack any vocal challenge. I am honestly so incredibly grateful to have Matt in my life. He has become one of my most trusted advisors and also a very close friend. I’m yet to ask him any question about vocals that he can’t explain or demonstrate.

I’ve been working with Matt for a few years now and he’s just the best vocal teacher I’ve ever had. He’s very practical, and he made me understand things about my instrument way more clearly than any other teacher.
